4 Tips For Writing Effective Advertising Copy

Posted by Stephanie Mojica on January 6, 2012 in Freelance Writing, Tips for Coaches

By Stephanie Mojica

A small business marketing strategy requires great advertising copy but often does not include the budget necessary to hire a top-notch copywriter. But the beauty of being a small business owner or self-employed entrepreneur is that you can quickly and affordably learn just a few skills to help your advertising copy bring you more clients and customers.

Imagine that after reading this article, you have the power to increase the effectiveness of your small business marketing strategy. These are just four of the tips for writing effective advertising copy that have helped me, my clients and my mentors make millions of dollars.

  1. Know just who is your target client and write your advertising copy for the benefit of that person. This article could have been geared toward freelancers who write copy for others and actually may benefit them, but my purpose was to help other small business owners write better advertising copy. So as you write, imagine only one potential client. If people outside of your target market are destined to hear your message and use your services or products, they will likely still come to you. But you won’t get anyone signing up for your programs or buying your products if you don’t focus your writing and marketing efforts to one type of person who is your ideal client
  2. Focus on how your service or product can solve your ideal client’s biggest problems. You must offer a solution and focus more on the solution than the problem or even your own credentials. Otherwise, your ideal client will not feel that you understand him which means no business for you.
  3. Include testimonials from past customers and clients. Your prospective clients are much more likely to trust the words of your past customers. Make sure all testimonials focus more on the results your clients have experienced rather than the process you used to get them there or how great you are. People want to see tangible results, such as someone tripling their income or losing weight.
  4. Personalize your copy by using words such as “you.” The word “you” is inclusive and makes your customer feel much less like part of a small business marketing strategy. Creating that written atmosphere can help foster a relationship quickly, which is important whether you’re a marketing consultant or selling weight loss products.

Now that you’ve learned a few easy ways to increase the effectiveness of your advertising copy, put them into action as you carry out your small business marketing strategy. Also, consider some other ways in which you can increase your exposure to clients and cement your reputation as an expert in your industry. One of the best ways to quickly gain momentum is to speak in front of live audiences or publish an electronic or print book.

My good friend and fellow author/business coach Sheri Kaye Hoff and I expand upon these marketing strategies in our quick start audio CD, “Best Selling Book Writing Secrets,” which you can access for at http://www.writeabookgetmoreclients.com

When you apply the steps in this quick start CD, you will have at least one solid idea for a book that you’re excited about and also an initial plan of just how you or your ghostwriter will quickly create the manuscript. Your electronic or printed book can serve as one of the strongest pieces of advertising copy you’ll ever create.

Knowing how to write an article has become a good deal additional significant as of late than it ever was. It really is important not just to writers who write books and news stories but even to people who own a company. This is for the reason that many diverse promoting methods that make use of different articles already exist. If you own a business and you don’t choose to spend a drastically large amount of income on article writing services you ought to know how to write a feature article.

Despite getting written most likely hundreds of articles in their entire lives, lots of men and women these days nonetheless do not know how to tell a feature article and an essay apart. Authors Sell More Books This Week With More Powerful Headlines.

Posted by Stephanie Mojica on December 26, 2011 in Guest Posts

By M.T. Smith

Professional writers (referred to as Copywriters in the ad game) make thousands of dollars per written ad. They understand the power of words to sway consumers.

Simply put your ad is costing you X amount of dollars to run (wherever you choose to run it) and changing the headline can dramatically increase your profit.

But does it surprise you to know that most writers and authors never even test their headlines?

Imagine paying $100 dollars for an ad that generates $200 dollars in profit. You should test the headline to that ad. Run the same ad in the same publication at two different times. You will discover that one ad will out perform (outpull) the other.

For the sake of this discussion we are assuming that you have chosen the best publication based upon research and that you have an offering, product, service, etc. that people actually want!

(We spend lots of time in our training materials on these important aspects of your offering).

Where was I?

Right, so if one of the ads pulls better than the other, and makes more money for you, the other ad is eliminated.

This new ad now becomes what we call in advertising, your ‘control’. This becomes the main ad that you now run.

Do you stop there?

Only if you don’t want to make more money. You continue to test the next ad and the next. But you should be having fun with this testing because each time the new ad becomes the control you have made more money.

Of course ‘the ad’ can be anything:

- A postcard – Adwords ad – Direct mail letter – TV commercial – Radio commercial

This is the concept behind PPC ads. It is also why you are allowed to run so many ads at once. But, again, most advertisers don’t test or scrutinize the results of their ads. This is not (necessarily) because they are lazy. It could be because they have significant time constraints or lack of funds.

You can take a survey approach by writing a dozen headlines for your ad and running them by a spouse, friend, or associate to see which one strikes their fancy. Then repeat this same exercise with others. Keep score of which headlines are preferred.

The headline has been called “the ad for the Ad”.

Its whole purpose is to get someone to read the first sentence of your ad. Want to guess the purpose of the first sentence?

Yep.

Its purpose is to get them to read the next sentence, and so on.

I am often asked about the length of the headline. “How long should it be?” Some copywriters like long, benefit laden, headlines. Others prefer short, snappy ones.

Care to guess how I respond to their question?

Ah-Hah! You are getting it. “Test them.”

Never spend time arguing about which headline will do better. Put it to the marketplace to give you the answer.

Always remember your customer’s favorite radio station: WII-FM. Translated it means What’s In It For Me. This is your product’s benefit. Make sure that your customers are clear about what it is you have to offer and why they should care.

Here it may be useful to come up with a list of benefits for your offering. If I may use MoonLightWealth as an example.

In conclusion remember these points:

- Spend half of your time researching your offer and writing your ad. – Spend the other 50% testing headlines. – Develop a control and keep improving it.

This is how you improve cash flow and create compelling ads that generate more sales.

This article was written by M.T. Smith, Partner in MoonLightWealth.Com. He has been the VP and Creative Director for several east coast ad agencies in the last 20 years. His new mystery “A Familiar Murder” is now available through Amazon. He and his team help new, and experienced, writers untangle the web and learn to mine its treasure.

Article Writing – Tips To Improve Your Skill In Writing Articles

Posted by Stephanie Mojica on December 19, 2011 in Guest Posts

By Charles Kiyimba

Writing articles for marketing your website is really a difficult undertaking to most marketers. Article writing requires you to have the writing skill and to consistently write articles with good information for your audience. It’s probably one of the reasons why most marketers prefer sourcing article writing services. But if you have a limited budget to buy the articles, the only alternative is to acquire slowly the skill of writing your own articles.

That said, article writing is a skill you can acquire even if you have never written any article before, provided you know very well the language in which you intend to write your articles. Secondly, you need to develop the passion for writing articles. In this article, I would like to share with you 10 tips of how to improve your article writing skill.

1. Did you know that writing articles is easy if you know what to write about? How much do you know about the subject you intend to write about? Can you present yourself as an expert on that subject? Are you conversant with the subject matter and with your niche? If you don’t have much information about your niche, then you need to become more knowledgeable in your field of specialization. Remember that driving traffic to your website necessitates presenting yourself as an expert, which depends largely on the content you provide to your readers and how good you are at writing your articles.

2. Thinking about various ways of presenting your subject matter is a key element of article writing. When you come up with a single idea, you should reflect yourself on the different ways of presenting the same topical idea in one to three or four interrelated patterns. It helps you to come up with several articles on the same subject. For instance, if your main idea is about auto responders, you can widely expand your thinking by looking at the idea from different angles as follows:

How to use auto responders

Benefits of using auto responders in email marketing

How to select the best auto responder service provider

What to avoid when using auto responders

3. One of the article writing techniques I always use is to write my articles in stages. You do not have to write your article at a time. Vary your writing sessions on each article you produce. Make it a process whereby in your first writing, you are just putting the ideas down on paper off your head as they come and as they flow. The second time, you review what you wrote, paying attention to things like optimization of keywords, grammatical corrections, spelling errors, coordination of ideas, logical flow of ideas and the style among others. Another time, you polish it up before you finally publish it. This article writing technique can believably enable you to produce good articles.

4. Another technique of writing articles continuously is by programming yourself. Plan to routinely produce articles and stick to your plan irrespective of any other eventualities. Style your mind in a way that you have to regularly focus your mind on writing as many articles as you can on a regular basis.

5. When writing your articles, it’s advisable to hold your writing sessions when you are in a good mood, a lively mood that allows you to think faster. It’s beneficial to write when you feel passionate and enthusiastic about what you are doing. This can help you to produce good articles. Remember that your writing mood is always reflected in your article and it is a deciding factor about the success of your articles. Using this technique, I have written several articles, which make me feel like they were not written by me. You too can improve the quality of your writing skill by writing articles only when you are in a good writing mood.

6. Reading aloud is another way of improving your article writing skill. After drafting your article, you can read loudly to yourself several times. You can also read loudly in the presence of others with an intention of making corrections and perceiving the impact your articles can have on your readers. This technique has for sure helped me to improve my article writing proficiency.

7. Writing your articles with humor attracts people to always read your articles. This does not have to be done at the expense of the quality of your articles in terms of content. Remember that writing humorous articles will play a big role in attracting your audience.

8. Persistence contributes substantially to success in any business undertaking. Persistently write your articles to have greater impact on your marketing campaigns. Writing a few articles and you stop will not help you to grow your business. Quality and quantity matters if you are to benefit from article writing.

9. Have your own style of writing. This is one of the reasons why I prefer writing my own articles. While it’s convenient and time saving to source your articles from outside, it’s also a disadvantage in that you do not own the style in which they are written. Other people will also get articles from the same source. Although the content will be different, the writing style is likely to remain the same. Remember that your followers and potential readers may be attracted to reading your articles because of your article writing style.

10. Use simple and understandable English. Avoid using jargons and hard terms. Where you are compelled to use difficult terms, endeavor to make them understandable. Use relatively short sentences to avoid ambiguity. Vary the size of your paragraphs. Long paragraphs tend to scare away your potential readers. It’s advisable to limit your paragraphs to not more than six sentences where possible.

Finally, I would like to remind you that improving your article writing skill is a process. Through applying a few techniques like the ones I have mentioned above, you can become an expert article writer. Learn to write your own articles to market your websites and your products as well.

Self Publishing Tips for Fame and Fortune

Posted by Stephanie Mojica on December 12, 2011 in Guest Posts

The world of publishing has changed dramatically over the past two decades. You no longer need to be a Stephen King or John Grisham to get a bestseller out into the mainstream and earn a six or even seven figure yearly income. And it’s all thanks to self publishing.

This year alone a good handful of self published authors have outsold some of the most popular traditionally published authors of the past decade. And they did it without investing more than a few dollars! Case in point, Amanda Hocking, a 26-year old woman from Michigan sold more than one million copies of her latest literary efforts through Amazon.com. She specifically targets the electronic book market via the Kindle and sells her books as low as $0.99 – keeping 70% of that as money in her pocket. In other words, she is making $70,000 plus or minus every single month for a book she writes one time and lets Amazon do all the work of selling and fulfilling. Not too shabby!

Okay, so now you know there is money there – how do you get your hands on it? It’s not as hard as you might think. The first step is, of course, to write your book. Or is it? That’s actually a rookie mistake made by more than 90% of first time self-published authors. If your book is just for you and some friends, then writing your book is your first step. If you want to sell gobs of copies, then you should first research your topic to see how popular it is.

Topic Research 101: The fastest and easiest way to research your potential book topics is to do so using Google’s free keyword research tool. It basically tells you how many people are searching on any given topic (or keyword) for the previous month. Just run a search for “Google keyword tool” and it will pop right up at the top. You simply visit the site and enter any topic of interest such as “homemade dog biscuit recipes” (no need for the quotes) and you will see the number of people who searched for that topic last month (Google always presents the previous month’s data to keep it fresh). You might even learn that a slight tweak such as “homemade dog treat recipes” draws even more attention. This is great to know when you get ready to put a title to your work!

Of course, this is just one example. If you want to know the general interest for a topic like Bass fishing, just do the same for “Bass fishing”. You might even want to narrow it down to something like “Bass fishing Cape Cod” if you are thinking about a more niche target audience such as those who would like to fish bass on The Cape.

Formatting In A Flash: Once you sit down to write your masterpiece you should consider investing $25 or so in a formatting package. You can get some very inexpensively that act as a plugin for MS Work by Googling ” book formatting software”. I have used the same one for five years and it only cost twenty five dollars. You can also do a search for “free book formatting templates for MS Word” and get some great free tools.

Cover Design: People really do judge a book by its cover so plan on spending some time – and possibly money – on this all important area. If you need great cover art give a place like iStockPhoto.com a shot. You can get illustrations or photos for a few dollars. Another good option is to hire a freelancer at a service like VWorker.com, Guru.com, or eLance.com. I used such a freelancer for my first book cover and spent just $60.

Edit Like Crazy: The minute your book goes to print you find ten “obvious” mistakes that you cannot believe you missed. After you do your own editing, have someone knowledgeable do a second pass for you. You might even try a local college or university and as an experienced (or post-grad) Lit major to do it for a nominal fee – or to be included in the book credits for the world to see. It helps everyone.

Getting Published: Once your manuscript is ready to be published, explore some of the self publishing options available. I have used both Lulu.com and Amazon’s new self-publishing system at CreateSpace.com. Both are amazing and there are many more. I only advise that you select a service that offers the most and costs little to nothing up front. If they make their money from your book’s actual sales – instead of from your pocket – they are more likely to have your best interest at heart.

Getting Credit: We could end at getting published, but don’t stop there! Now that the tough part is over, enjoy yourself and get some well-earned recognition. The best way to do this is through winning awards. There are several specific to self publishing as well as many for just about any book niche you can imagine. But be wary of scams. Although some book award programs charge a legitimate fee for processing some others are just looking to make a buck (many charge $75 to $150 per title and category!) That said, consider looking for book award with no fees, such as those from IndependentBookAwards.com. Your chances of winning are just as good and the award will mean a lot more (plus, it’s free).

Write Maid Of Honor Speeches

Posted by Stephanie Mojica on November 28, 2011 in Guest Posts

You might be a woman that has been tasked with one of the most important jobs in a wedding. This task is the maid of honor speech. This is the time of the wedding reception when ideally, the bride and the groom are celebrated.

However, sometimes the wedding speech ceremonies can go south very quickly, and create moments of the reception that will never be forgotten, for all of the wrong reasons! So, if you don’t want your reception speech to be a wedding don’t, then here are some points to consider when you are considering the dos and the don’ts of how to write maid of honor speeches.

Don’t get choked up or embarrassed. This is simply a moment to share your heartfelt sentiments about the bride. Since you are the maid of honor, you either are a sister, a close friend, or some other close relation.

This means that you know the bride very well. You understand why she’s special, and why her wedding day is so important to her. Simply write what is on your heart, and why you feel that she should be celebrated.

Don’t use the reception as your moment to vent. This might sound like a hideous thing to do, but it’s amazing how many maids of honor or groomsmen use the reception speech forum as a way to vent their anger, hurt, jealousy, or frustration with the bride, or the groom. In the case of the maid of honor, she might feel a sneaky satisfaction of knowing that she can somehow embarrass the bride, even if it’s in an ever-so-subtle way.

The bottom line is that, you should show some class, and not use the bride’s wedding reception as a forum to vent your frustrations, or to otherwise embarrass her. This also goes for venting against the groom.

You don’t have to agree with the bride’s choice of groom. You simply need to support the bride, and be a blessing on her special day. Save your grievances for a much later date. Don’t write maid of honor speeches, by using a poison pen.

Be considerate and thoughtful when you write maid of honor speeches. If you have been selected for the honor of being the maid of honor, it’s usually because you are emotionally close to the bride. So that means that you know her intimately. Consider her fine points that would make her shine in front of her groom, and in front of all of her guests.

Use a sentimental story. When you write maid of honor speeches, the bride will love it if and when you weave in a sentimental, shared experience that the two of you had. The story should discuss how wonderful she is, or how much you will miss your special times together, or that she is now moving on into a new phase of life, and you wish her well.

Five Advantages To Publishing an E-Book First

Posted by Stephanie Mojica on November 21, 2011 in Guest Posts

Copyright © 2011 Maggie Klee Lichtenberg

What are the results of self-publishing that matter most to you? Is it the speed of getting your book out? The opportunity to have the broadest access to all distribution channels? Lower printing costs? Total creative and marketing control? A book to sell to add to your business toolkit?

At the very least, these decisions are about your wallet first. You’ve got to be really clear about what you want to accomplish with the book, and the realistic expenditure that goes along with that. Here are five advantages to publishing your book as an eBook first.

1. To test the waters, for example, and spend less money at first, you can begin with an eBook. That will cost you far less than print book digital production. Then using a strategic online marketing approach you can attract your niche community and test the market. Not sure who your eReader audience is? Or if they are comfortable with eBooks? Know that there are millions of users of eReaders today, including readers using tablets and smartphones, and these readers are only increasing.

2. Another advantage to publishing the eBook first is that you can continue to edit the book. But don’t plan on this! At best, you want a professionally edited, completed manuscript to go forward from the beginning. That said, if suddenly you acquire hot new information or perspective (for a non-fiction book) or are inspired by a literary rewrite opportunity, you can revise the content and put the new version up.

3. You can treat this first edition as the advance reading copy (ARC). There are many uses for ARCs. You can solicit peer comment and endorsements (for eventual back cover copy)in an orderly format rather than handing someone a scrawling manuscript.

4. ARCs can be used as “uncorrected proofs” or galleys to be submitted electronically to prepublication review and long lead media. There is much promotional mileage to take advantage of before pushing the button to print hard copies.

5. To further consider whether you want to bring out an eBook first, there are the POD “publishers” to think about. First of all, they are not really publishers. Print-On-Demand publishing is a digital technology through which Internet “packager” firms offer a full range of author services within a choice of set fees. Rather than ticking off set-in-stone services you need from the menu of a POD packager — and having less control over the outcome than if you independently published — consider hiring a knowledgeable book coach to guide the independent eBook-publishing process for you. The print book can be planned and coordinated at the same time. You want to get your book — eBook first, or not — published your way.

How To Write Better Content For The Internet

Posted by Stephanie Mojica on November 14, 2011 in Guest Posts

The style that you use when writing content for the internet is not nearly the same as the writing style that you used in high school or college. If you want to create content on the internet that is popular and successful, you may literally need to “unlearn” some of the things that you learned in school about writing. People do not typically enjoy reading things that are in a tone of voice that is too formal, and they want to find the information that they are looking for right away without it being too complicated. You are not writing a doctoral thesis here, you are writing valuable, informative, and entertaining content for regular people searching for information and who have short attention spans.

One important thing to consider is the sort of person that will be the target audience for the content you are creating. Depending on what you are writing about and who you are writing it for, take into consideration the reading level of your target audience. Also do not be afraid to create content that is visually appealing with appropriate pictures, since this will tend to be much easier to read and it will communicate the core message more effectively. Since the typical reader on the internet today is going to have a short attention span, the content that you create and the articles that you write need to be interesting enough to hold their attention.

As an added bonus, you can take a lot of the content that you have created for the internet and transform it in different ways in order to make it more popular and even get more traffic to your website. For example, you can take articles that you have written and make them available as documents in PDF format, which will give the search engines another way to catalog your content. If you take one of your articles and read it out loud into a microphone, you will now have this same content in audio format that can be used to create Powerpoint presentation videos of your articles.

When you want to write compelling and interesting articles, it is not just what you are saying but it is how you say it that also makes a big difference. A great writer can take a boring topic and make it sound interesting, which can capture the attention of a greater number of readers. By following the tips outlined in this article for writing and creating content for the internet, you should be able to increase the popularity of the content on your own website by making it more compelling and engaging.
